Killara Distillery
Richmond, TAS
Positioned on sunny acreage in the historic town of Richmond, is Killara Distillery.
Producing Single Malt Whiskey, Apothecary Gin and Tasmanian Vodka, this bespoke little distillery is both quaint and cosy. With a warming cellar door that heroes local Tasmanian timber, Killara has fast become a must-see for tourists, locals and spirit connoisseurs alike.
This project was an exciting one for us, as we got to hero quality Tasmanian materials whilst supporting an iconic Tasmanian business.
Interior cladding throughout Killara is hardwood ply that was expertly sourced by our preferred local suppliers. The warm tones and durability of the hardwood are naturally enhanced by a varnish that has a water-based finish.
Polished concrete floors also feature at the distillery, perfect for this line of work because it is not only hardy, but eye-catching and timeless.
A detail not to be missed is the exquisite custom Tasmanian Oak Barn Door that we created. It is the focal point of the exterior that warmly greets everyone who enters.
Moving to the exterior, we wanted to ensure the building fit into the landscape yet had its own humble charm. Balanced by the warm oak, the exterior cladding we selected is Colorbond iron in a cool blue hue. Built to withstand the elements, this was an imperative choice for the project.
